The Tombstone

Here's a great recipe from David Wondrich's book "Imbibe". It's basically a shaken old fashioned which calls for an overproof rye in place of the bourbon and specifies a rich simple syrup. It also happens to have been given a great name!

THE TOMBSTONE

Ingredients
2 oz 100 or 101 proof rye whiskey
1 teaspoon rich simple syrup*
2 dashes angostura bitters

Instructions
Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
"Twist a thin-cut swatch of lemon peel over the top."

* According to David's instructions, to make the rich simple syrup stir 4 cups of demerara sugar and 2 cups of water over low heat until sugar has dissolved. Let cool, bottle and add 1/2 oz of grain alcohol or 151 rum to slow spoilage.
